Footage Dump: Brad Boyer

Footage Dump is a new feature where I basically clean out my harddrive. I'll periodically be posting footage of people that won't make it to any "official" video or anything. The first Footage Dump is of Brad Boyer. I love the ender.

America

Let freedom ring.

This is easily one of the most absurd situations I've ever seen caught on film. I love it when the cop accuses the skater of getting "technical." Thank god she was there to serve and protect.

Old Ass 1-Chip Footage: Brad Boyer

I miss the days when skating Burgettstown and Weirton was easily considered fun. Oh well, here's footage from when it was. Brad's got OG goonface crew status.

In Exile: Charlie Coatney

Asphalt Anthology

I'm going home for the weekend, but what I'm posting here should definitely keep you busy.

RE1000 alerted my attention to Asphalt Anthology. It's basically amazing because you can watch every Girl/Chocolate video ever made. Amazing.

Patrick Skates Fast

Here's some footage I shot the other day at Evolution. Matt was kind enough to film me. Thanks man.

Starring: Patrick Walsh, Matt Marlatt and Dave Carulli.

This is the first time filming with my new fisheye, which unfortunately is scratched. I'm in the process of rectifying that problem.

I filmed yesterday...

The more I watch Mind Field, the more I love the video. If anyone is worried about the bonus features, don't be. Everyone's "throwaway" footage is incredible, and I'm pretty mad they didn't put some of Arto's stuff in his part. Its all gold, and Bledsoe even does some NBD tricks that somehow didn't make the video.

I actually filmed today, which was pretty fun. I used my scratched fisheye today before I send it away to get its glass replaced. Patrick Walsh killed it. I'll post that soon.

Anyways I found this old edit Justin Funk posted a long time ago, sometime soon after 7 Ply's of Love came out.

Also, wtf is up with no feedback here?

Old Ass 1-Chip Footage: Malone Lynn

I'm starting up a new feature on the blog today: Old Ass 1-Chip Footage. Basically I'll be posting super old video parts from videos I made long ago (before I stopped sucking at filming). Firstly, we have my friend Malone Lynn from Weirton WV. Can't wait to skate with you again man.

Mind Field Impressions

The premiere went down last night in Dayton, and the Akron posse took up 3 rows. We were by far the rowdiest people there. It seemed like the majority of the other people acted like they were in church or something. Some douche even was like "be quiet, yo" or some BS. Anyways...

Someone like me tends to look at the filming and editing as well as the skating, and I can tell you the video dominates all three categories. However, I left the auditorium feeling just mildly disappointed. I hyped myself up too much, but no matter how legit AWS is, I'm still going to give an objective critique.

Going into this video, you should know roughly the art style you're getting into. However, they took this to the extreme at some points of the video. I thought Greg Hunt was going to find a happy medium between showing skating and showing sick artistic stuff, but he didn't. The video seemed fractured by an insane amount of cutaways to randomness, and usually didn't establish a good rhythm of skating tricks. I got hyped by some tricks, but instead of building on that excitement, the video shows 10 seconds of weird shit and then goes back to skating. I'm all for creative art direction and the aesthetic of Alien Workshop's videos, but don't let it get in the way of the skating.

Whereas Ty Evans didn't cut out NEARLY enough skating in Fully Flared, this video didn't show enough. They only showed the best of the best footage, but that basically cut each part down to around 20 tricks. If you took 3+ years to film this video, I WANT TO SEE SOME EVIDENCE OF IT. I was most excited to see Arto, and I swear his part didn't have more than 20 some clips. Hell, Dyrdek couldn't have had more than 10 tricks. I was bummed, but not at all about the level of skating in the video.

The majority of the skaters impressed the hell out of me, especially Grant Taylor. He skates some really unique stuff in his part. As many people know, Arto is my favorite skater, and he did some ridiculous shit. I was bummed I already knew his ender though, and his part was paced slowly. Berra still skates homemade spots, but whatever. Kalis probably had more footage than anyone in the video, something I attribute to the fact that he skates to rap. I guess Greg Hunt couldn't fit all his cutaways over that type of music. Speaking of music...

Basically half of the video is edited to Dinosaur Jr, and the rest is edited to Animal Collective and some other bands. I can't complain about Dinosaur Jr at all though. Omar's opening part had two Dinosaur Jr songs, and it fit so well.

Dill's part... wow. I can honestly say the place erupted at the sight of his ender. STOP, THINK AND ASK YOURSELF, "what trick has never been done out of a manual?" Enough said.

Towards the end of the video, after AVE's awesome 2nd-to-last part, I knew what was coming: Heath Kirchart. I was bracing myself for the hammer fest, but the segue before his part put me in the correct mood. I felt surreal because of it, and the segue summed the video's art direction up perfectly. It only made the moments before Heath's part more dramatic. I won't spoil any of the carnage that happened next, but Heath DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. Skating to Morrissey is also a plus.

Technically, the video is mesmerizing. I just wish they would have shown more of the footage they withheld. However, don't be a cheapskate - this video is well worth the purchase.

Oh yeah, I enabled anonymous commenting finally, so don't hesistate.

Nick Sturm

Don Hammersley edited this thing up a long ass time ago. I don't know exactly how many years ago some of this footage is from, but its still so sick. Without Nick, I would have never met any of the people I skate with in Akron.

I'll be at the MIND FIELD premiere tomorrow in Dayton. I'll definitely be posting my completely unbiased impressions here (this is going to be the best video ever made).
